Retired Teachers to award $500 scholarship

The Putnam County Retired Teachers Association will award a $500 scholarship to a third- or fourth-year college student who aspires to become a future educator.

The recipient must be a Putnam County high school graduate and an Indiana college student enrolled in an undergraduate program, which will result in a degree in education.

Interested students must submit a letter of application, which includes the applicant's name, current address and name of high school and year of graduation.

In addition, there must be a brief (1-2 printed pages) description of personal interests and activities, experiences in a supervisory capacity with children or adults and aspirations and progress toward a career as an educator.

Applicants must also include a letter of recommendation from a Putnam County high school teacher, a letter of recommendation and a scholastic transcript from the college verifying the applicant's current enrollment and academic status, and other information the applicant believes is pertinent.

Applications should be mailed by April 15 to Mariette Bargen, 504 Ritter Ave., Greencastle, IN 46135.
