Man charged with failing to register as sex offender

CRAWFORDSVILLE -- A 27-year-old Greencastle man was charged Friday in Montgomery County with failing to register as a sex offender.

William Jesse Hood, whose current address is listed as Greencastle in Montgomery Superior Court records, was convicted in March 2006 of child molesting, a Class C felony.

The website of the Indiana Sex Offender Registry lists Hood as being required to register as a sex offender until June 3, 2020.

Originally, Hood was charged with eight counts, according to the criminal case website Doxpop.com. He was charged with four counts of child molesting and four counts of sexual misconduct with a minor.

At that time, Montgomery Circuit Court Judge Thomas Milligan gave Hood a suspended sentence of four years in the Indiana Department of Correction. Hood was placed on four years' probation.

However, on April 25, 2006 the court filed a motion to revoke that probation, alleging Hood had violated the terms by having contact with a person under the age of 18 and by smoking marijuana.

A year later Hood pled guilty to probation violation and his probation was extended by a year. He was sentenced to home detention and was released to live with his sister.

Hood also was ordered to report daily to the probation department and to seek sexual predator treatment and to submit to periodic drug and alcohol evaluations.

The Greencastle man was to have no contact with any female under the age of 18, the court further stipulated.

According to court records, Hood successfully completed the terms of his home detention on June 12, 2008. But the court filed another motion to revoke probation on Aug. 7, 2009.

Hood admitted in court on Nov. 21, 2011 to violating two terms of his probation. His original four-year sentence was reinstated, but Hood was released on time served (378 days).
