Bald eagle found dead at Shades State Park
WAVELAND -- Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the death of a bald eagle discovered Sunday at Shades State Park.
A mushroom hunter, Shaun Jett, of New Ross, contacted the Indiana Conservation Officers South Regional Headquarters Sunday morning, reporting that he had found a dead eagle while mushroom hunting along Sugar Creek.
Indiana Conservation Officer Blaine Gillan met with Jett at Shades State Park and recovered the carcass of the eagle.
Initial observations of the bald eagle did not indicate any foul play, Gillan reported. However, the investigation is ongoing.
The eagle was located in the extremely remote western portion of Shades State Park just inside Parke County. Shades covers portions of Montgomery, Parke and Fountain counties.
