Cloverdale claims first win of the season over Patriots

SPENCER -- The Cloverdale softball team picked up its first win of the season in dominating fashion Thursday. The Clovers defeated Owen Valley 14-0 in five innings of work.

Bradanne Toney was 3-for-3 with a double, with Paige Gutierrez going 2-for-3 with two doubles. Kara Knapp also wielded a big bat for CHS, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs.

Brianna Hoff and Heather Goss were 2-for-3 and Jess Winders went 1-for-3.

Gutierrez pitched a complete game, allowing just three hits and no walks. She had nine strikeouts on the night.

The Clovers scored 14 runs on 13 hits and committed a single error in the game.

The junior varsity team lost to the Patriots 4-1.
