Tiger Cubs, Eagles get big wins

TERRE HAUTE -- South Putnam utilized a big fifth inning to defeat Roncalli 6-3 Saturday in the Terre Haute Invite.

Jenny Thompson led the Eagles at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Brooke Cundiff and Emily Dabkowski added an RBI each.

Kaylin Yon pitched a complete game, gathering two strikeouts and allowing six hits.

Roncalli scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but the Eagles added one run in the fourth and five runs in the fourth to come away with the win.

Last season, Roncalli accounted for the Eagles' only loss during their state championship run.

South Putnam will host Cascade today at 5 p.m.

GREENCASTLE

The GHS softball team collected its third win of the year after defeating Eminence 12-1 in five innings Saturday.

Riley Seahorn and Jessie Bennett went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs. Seahorn added a home run and three runs scored for the Tiger Cubs. Courtney Adams, Danielle Thomas, Taylor Pruitt and Kandice Phillips had one RBI each.

Adams pitched five innings for the Tiger Cubs, allowing one run on five hits with five strikeouts.

Greencastle will travel to Terre Haute at 5 p.m.
