Volunteers make Robe-Ann egg hunt a success

The Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to our friends, volunteers and sponsors for their help with our annual Easter Egg Hunt.

On Saturday, March 31 at 10 a.m. GPD Officer Albert Epple blew the siren from his police car, and hundreds of youth from throughout the area ran, crawled, jumped, grabbed and scooped eggs from the ground at Robe-Ann Park.

The nearly 7,000 eggs contained small toys, candy, coupons for free food and snacks, and prizes ranging from hacky sacks, Easter baskets, and chocolate bunnies to two bicycles.

Thank you goes to Headley Hardware, McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Long John Silver's, Wal-Mart, Kroger, Carpenter Realtors, Treasures on the Square, Monical's Pizza, Friends of the Park and Bright Futures for all our prizes. Thank you to The Banner Graphic and WREB for all your advertisements.

Another thank you goes to our egg stuffers who came to help from Old National Trail, GRASP, Greencastle Boy Scout Troop 99, Res-Care and Carpenter Realtors.

A sometimes forgotten group gets a big thank you, a very important group of volunteers who came on Saturday morning to hide the eggs, guide the youth and parents to the correct area for their age, staffing the prize distribution tables and helping with the start line at each age group. Those volunteers include Debby and Kayla Sage; Beva Miller; Stacy, Whitney and Sedrick Weinschenk; Naomi Farcus; Butch and Val Stoffregen; and Carpenter Realtors.

And last, but also a very important thank you to the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends and family who drove the young ones to the park for the hunt.

Hopefully we have not missed anyone, but just in case, thank you to all those involved not mentioned.

We could not hold such a successful community event without sponsors and volunteers; they once again helped make the annual Robe-Ann Park Easter Egg Hunt a memorable experience for hundreds of area youth.
