Eagles stop Chargers in five innings

CRAWFORDSVILLE -- The South Putnam softball team rolled out a new pitcher, but the results were familiar. The Eagles traveled to North Montgomery and came away with a 17-2 win in five innings Friday.

South Putnam called on the arm of freshman Ashlee Gibson and she didn't disappoint. Gibson pitched five innings striking out six and allowing just four hits for her first win of her high school career.

Offensively, Emily Dabkowski continued her hot hitting on the season, The senior hit for the cycle against the Chargers, recording a home run, a triple, a double and single en route to a six RBI night for SPHS.

Brooke Cundiff was 2-for-2 with two RBI and scored three times. Brooke Boejter was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, with Mattie Varvel adding one RBI.

Janet Crafton and Kesley Whitaker combined to score three times for the Eagles.

South Putnam (10-0) will host Monrovia Monday at 5 p.m.
