Putnam County native Gene Beck is seeking a Republican nomination to an at-large seat on the Putnam County Council in the May 8 primary election.

Beck has been active in county government, serving as a deputy sheriff under Bobby Albright, Putnam County Councilman, Putnam County Highway Supervisor and currently as County Commissioner, First District.

"Even though I am not running for commissioner this year, I am still interested in the future of Putnam County, and if elected I would be honored to serve on the council," Beck said. "I feel my experience in county government gives me the knowledge to make sound decisions, keeping the taxpayers in mind at all time.

"As a taxpayer, I believe we need to keep tax rates as low as possible for the residents of our county," he added.

As part of his commissioner duties, Beck serves on the Putnam County Planning Commission, West Central Solid Waste Board and 911 Board.

Beck graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1959, Purdue University Ag Short Course in 1960 and the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1969.

Beck is a lifelong resident of Floyd Township. Along with their son, he and wife Alice operate a registered Hereford cattle farm. They have two married children and three grandsons.

He is one of six Republican candidates for three at-large council spots on the Nov. 6 General Election ballot.

"Your support will be appreciated," Beck said.
