Wednesday, April 25, 2012

The South Putnam tennis team defeated Turkey Run 3-2 on Senior Night.

Senior Ericka Minor gave South Putnam its lone singles win on the night, defeating Hannah Delp 6-3, 6-1.

The No. 1 doubles team of Caitlyn Boyce and Madision Cash picked up a win 6-2, 6-3, while the No. 2 doubles team of Kyndra Boyce and Emily Clark won 6-3, 6-2.

Seniors Minor and Jade Asher were honored on the night.

Head coach Johnnie Briones praised his senior following the win.

"(We) still have a few matches to go, but (I'm) proud of my two seniors and the hard work and leadership they have provided."

On Monday, South Putnam suffered a rough outing against Southmont, falling to the Mounties 5-0.

Briones said the score didn't reflect how his team played on the night. He noted that many matches went to deuce, but his squad couldn't deliver the kill shot.

"Our girls just could not hit the put away shot," Briones said. "We didn't hit the ball well and you can't do that against a really good team like Southmont."

South Putnam will travel to South Vermillion Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
