Clovers win OV Invite; Eagles are 19-0

SPENCER -- The Cloverdale softball team captured the Owen Valley Invitational Saturday after picking up two wins.

In game one, Paige Gutierrez went all six innings, striking out 11 and giving up four hits. She was also 3-for-4 wit htwo singles and a double. Kara Knapp added a triple and a single, while Brianna Hoff had a triple. Adri Patterson was 2-for-4 with five RBI.

Gutierrez returned to the mound in game two and pitched another gem. She gave up one hit, while striking out 15 batters in six innings.

Knapp was 3-for-4 with two triples and a single, while Gutierrez was 2-for-3 with two singles. Beka Jordan added a double. Justeena Wellington, Bradanne Toney and Adri Patterson all had hits in the game.

Cloverdale will travel to Shakamak Thursday at 5 p.m.

SOUTH PUTNAM

South Putnam's perfect season remains intact after a 11-0 drubbing of North Vermillion Saturday. With the win, the Eagles move to 19-0 on the season.

Jenny Thompson was 1-for-2 with three RBI and a home run, while Emily Dabkowski was 2-for-2 with a triple, a double and two RBI. Mattie Varvel added a triple, with Janet Crafton, MaKenzie Trisler, Jenna Jones and Kelsey Whitaker all adding hits. Jones and Trisler also contributed an RBI each.

Brooke Boetjer was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI. She also pitched four innings, recording eight strikeouts, while giving up one hit. Ashley Gibson pitched one inning in relief action and recorded three strikeouts and gave up no hits.

South Putnam will host Greencastle tonight at 5 p.m. and will honor its seniors.
