Billy E. 'Butch' Spencer

Billy E. "Butch" Spencer, 69, of Ellenboro, W.Va. (Finch Community), departed this life on Sunday, May 6, 2012, at his residence, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Butch was born Sept. 23, 1942 in Greencastle, a son of the late Ralph and Irene (Hood) Spencer.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1960-1976, serving multiple tours in the Vietnam War, and achieving the rank of sergeant.

He was a mechanic by trade and greatly enjoyed his antique truck and his friends.

He was a life member of the Parkersburg VFW Post 1212, Amvets of Parkersburg 34, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2307, Parkersburg.

He is survived by his daughter, Penny Sue Steel (Dennis); sisters, Patricia Branson (Bill), Atlanta, Ga. Norma Fink, Mount Meridian, and Florence Stockton, (Harley) Bainbridge; brothers, Ronald Gene Spencer (Lois) and Ralph Spencer, Jr. (Becky) both of Greencastle; friends and neighbors, Rick Phillips and TJ Boyce, both of Ellenboro, W.Va. (Finch Community); friends, Donald and Donna Cottrill, Pennsboro; Luann Jenkins, Ellenboro, W.Va.; Ken Heeke, Greencastle; three grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces. Former wife Helen Jones, of Roachdale, also survives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Colleen (Carr) Spencer, and an infant twin brother Bobby.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon Thursday, May 10 at McCullough Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, W.Va., with Rev. James Pyles, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Pullman Cemetery where full military honors will be presented by Harris-Ritchie Post 3554.
