Lewis resigns from GCSC board
In a somewhat surprising move, Kelly Lewis resigned from the Greencastle School Board Wednesday evening.
The Greencastle Township appointee had served on the board since July 2008, and his term was set to end on June 30. Instead, it will come nearly a month early on June 1.
"We all wish Kelly well and thank him for his service to the board," board president Bruce Stinebrickner said. The remaining three board members also expressed their appreciation for Lewis.
Although he was at Wednesday's meeting, Lewis was unavailable for comment afterward.
With Lewis' term ending, the Greencastle Township Advisory Board is set to choose a board member for the next four years before July 1. Lewis would have been eligible for additional terms, but a new face will take his place on the board in July.
The school board has 30 days to replace a board member after a resignation. Normally, interviews would be conducted to choose an interim member for the remainder of the term.
However, the timing of the effective date of this resignation, within 30 days of a new term, frees Lewis' colleagues of the requirement. The board will operate with four members in June, with a new appointee taking office in July.
