Four tons of paper shredded, recycled at event

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Putnam County Board of Realtors, I would like to thank Farm Credit Service of Greencastle for partnering with us to hold our first Community Shred Event.

Saturday's event was a huge success, with over four tons of paper shredded and recycled.

More than 75 individuals and businesses brought documents to be shredded, or computer hard drives to be destroyed. While our goal was to provide a secure means of disposing of confidential documents, according to ProShred, recycling the contents of the shredded paper also saved 68 mature trees.

While the shredding service was provided free to everyone, we did accept donations to our Realtor Scholarship Fund. Thanks to the generosity of those participating, we raised $1,000. This will benefit Putnam County high school seniors through scholarships awarded each spring from our Scholarship Endowment at the Putnam County Community Foundation.

The Putnam County Board of Realtors hopes to be able to provide this free service to the community again next year.

Thank you to everyone that volunteered that day, and to everyone that participated in the event.
