Greencastle junior Colleen Weatherford looks to add state champion to her already long list of track distinctions Friday at the IHSAA State Track Finals in Bloomington.

Weatherford will compete in both the 800- and 1,600-meter runs at the state meet.

Already this season the she has won at the county, conference, sectional and regional meets.

She posted a record time at county in the 800, finishing at 2:19.30 and another record at regional in the 1,600 with a time of 5:06.39.

Weatherford finished second in the 800 at regional, but cut more than six seconds off her time from the county meet, recording a time of 2:12.62.

She is seeded just behind Evansville Central champion Taylor Wiley in the 800 and has the chance to bring a state track title back to Greencastle High School.

It would be the first GHS track championship since her brother Andy posted his second consecutive 1,600 state title in the 2006 season.

Weatherford is seeded second in the 800 event and eighth in the 1,600 event.

Last season the Tiger Cub placed seventh in the 800 with a time of 2:15.80.

The junior is a three-time state qualifier.

She will begin her chase at the podium Friday at 6:35 p.m. in the 1,600, then run again at 7:45 p.m. in the 800.

The IHSAA Girls' State Track Final takes place Friday at Indiana University's Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex.
