Bainbridge Improvement Society President John Kessinger repaints the names in the memory bricks on the patio behind the Bainbridge Town Center. He is hoping to be done before B.I.S. hosts a Jonah Fish Fry on Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

BAINBRIDGE -- In small-town Indiana, the council can only do so much. For things to stay in top shape, it takes at dedicated group of individuals.

The Bainbridge Improvement Society spreads its efforts in a variety of directions and Friday it will host a Jonah Fish Fry to help raise money and keep the improvements coming.

The fish fry will take place at the Bainbridge community building from 4:30 to 8 p.m.

Tickets for the event are $8 and buy guests all-you-can-eat fish (Alaskan Pollock), two sides and a drink.

The money will go to help B.I.S. in its various endeavors -- refurbishing the memory bricks on the patio, landscaping the community building, hosting Zumba classes three days per week, helping out youth sports leagues in town and more.

"I just always feel like whatever community you're in you need to be active in it," B.I.S. President John Kessinger said. "We do various things in the community to help Bainbridge get better."

Kessinger, originally from Roachdale, moved back to the area six years ago with his wife, Margaret, who went to high school in Bainbridge.

On Wednesday he was, with a toothpick, tediously repainting names in the bricks that have been in place since 1986 to prepare for Friday's event.

B.I.S., always looking to add new members, Kessinger said, meets the first Monday every month at 5 p.m. in the Bainbridge Town Building.

They host a fish fry each year in June and September.

"You better come and eat some fish," Kessinger said. "Boy, that is good stuff."
