Robert E. Gentry, 77, Bainbridge, passed away Friday, June 8, 2012 at IU Health-Methodist.

Born July 7, 1934 in Champaign, Ill., he was the son of Elmer and Betty Sampson Whisler.

He served our country in the National Guard for eight years and was a barber for many years in Indianapolis.

He married Sara J. Terry on his birthday in 1982, and she survives.

Bob worked for Detroit Diesel Allison for more than 30 years, retiring in 1992.

He had been a member of the Bainbridge Christian Church, Lions Club, American Legion, Masonic Lodge and Murat Shrine.

Survivors include his wife, Sara Gentry of Bainbridge; children Dan Gentry of Indianapolis, Ron (Kim) of Thorntown, Jeff (Michelle) of Bainbridge and Heather (Bart) of Wentzville, Mo.; sisters Ruby (John) Pierce of Virginia and Teshia (Richard) Combs of Texas and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Don Gentry and sisters, Edna Hanley and Ann Pipes.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 12 at Baker Funeral Home, 387 E. Broadway St., Danville, with burial to follow at Bainbridge Cemetery.

Calling will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, June 11 at the funeral home.
