K-12 educators from around the region will have opportunity to attend a free professional learning event at Southmont High School on July 30, funded by a grant from the Indiana Department of Education's Office of eLearning.

For minimal travel and no cost, teachers can gain new valuable ideas and resources and will also be eligible for up to 8 PGPs toward their continuing education requirements.

On the agenda is an opening keynote by international speaker and author Lee Crockett from the 21st Century Fluency Project, followed by morning and afternoon workshops with Crockett and Indiana native teacher and technology integration specialist Robbie Grimes.

Crockett's keynote and workshop will explore topics from his book "Literacy is Not Enough: 21st Century Fluencies for the Digital Age." In this session, teachers will work in an experimental manner, without tech tools, building scenarios in the learning environment to cultivate 21st century fluencies, such as media, solutions, creativity, collaboration, Information and digital citizenship.

Grimes' workshop will be hands-on with attendees' own laptops or mobile devices and teachers will come away with best practices and online resources to use in today's technology-rich learning environments.

The last event of the day will feature Virtual Education Specialist Libby Lawrie from Wayne Township MSD who will present a session on engaging students with My Big Campus and resources from the National Repository of Online Courses.

This event is free to any K-12 Indiana educator or administrator, but seats are limited and advance registration is required. Details to register can be found at www.south-mont.k12.in.us/eLearning .
