Museum offering 'Playtimes of Past' free summer children's games

Local children ages 5-12 are invited to participate in a free series of "Playtimes of the Past" children's summer programs, sponsored by the Putnam County Museum.

The programs on games of the past are scheduled 10-11 a.m. each Tuesday and Thursday throughout the rest of June.

The schedule will begin Tuesday, June 19 with String Games during which participants will learn such string activities as Hand Catch, Cup and Saucer, Jacob's Ladder and more.

On Thursday, June 21 the program will be on traditional small games such as Tiddlywinks, Marbles, Jacks and others.

Games on Tuesday, June 26 will include Duck, Duck, Goose, Red Rover and other small group activities.

The final program on Thursday, June 28 will focus on Hopscotch and Ultimate Hopscotch Challenge in which participants will learn how the game originated, how to create a play board and how to go beyond the basics.
