City Police

Two recent incidents of theft were reported by Greencastle City Police at the Walmart store on Indianapolis Road.

The latest occurred at 4:54 p.m. Wednesday as Diana Kay Morrissey, 58, Greencastle, was arrested and lodged in the Putnam County Jail on shoplifting charges.

Officer Ed Wilson said Morrissey reportedly took two pairs of sunglasses and a bottle of sunscreen, valued at a total of $23.54.

City Police were called to the scene after Walmart officials reported apprehending the shoplifting suspect for a second time, GPD reported.

At 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, two Greencastle men were arrested at the store on charges of theft and inhaling toxic vapors.

Officer Darrel Bunten arrested John Hart, 27, and Calvin Minnix-Spiker, 20, after they were reportedly witnessed huffing compressed air from products on the store shelves.

Both men were lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

County Jail

On Wednesday, June 20 at 3:09 a.m. Jeremy Dale West, 35, Greencastle, was booked into the Putnam County Jail for probation violation.

Sheriff's Department

On Monday, June 18, 2012 at 11:50 p.m. Justeena D. Wellington, 17, Cloverdale, was southbound on County Road 775 East in a 1999 Dodge pickup.

A crow flew into her windshield and scared her.

She then ran off the road and struck a Hendricks Power pole with the right front fender and ran about 60 feet into a bean field. The car ended up facing north in the field.

Both airbags went off, bruising her neck and right arm.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to a number of recent dispatches.

* On Monday, June 18 at 12:44 p.m. GFD was dispatched to an alarm at Delta Upsilon, 626 E. Seminary St. Cleared 1:20 p.m.

At 8:42 p.m. personnel performed a medical assist at 517 E. Washington St. Cleared 9:09 p.m.

At 9:52 p.m. firefighters were dispatched to a small fire in the attic at 1503 E. Rangeline Rd. The fire was out on arrival, but the responders assisted the homeowner in making sure it was extinguished. Cleared 10:13 p.m.

At 10:22 p.m. GFD responded to an unauthorized burn at Jaycee Park. They put the fire out and found no one around. It was likely an abandoned campfire. Cleared 10:40 p.m.

* On Tuesday, June 19 at 8:28 a.m. crews responded to a dryer fire at 1117 Avenue C. The fire was contained to the appliance. GFD evacuated smoke from the house. Cleared 9:16 a.m.

At 8:23 p.m. personnel were dispatched to an alarm at 413 S. Locust St. but were disregarded at 8:28 p.m.

At 11 p.m. GFD responded to an unauthorized burn at 1149 Avenue E. Cleared 11:10 p.m.

* On Wednesday, June 20 at 5:49 a.m. crews performed a lift assist at 210 W. Poplar St. Cleared 6:10 a.m.

At 4:59 p.m. GFD responded to an alarm at 413 S. Locust St. The problem was caused by cooking. Cleared 5:14 p.m.

At 9:23 p.m. personnel were dispatched to a medical assist at 1108 S. Locust St. Cleared 9:55 p.m.

* On Thursday, June 21 at 1:35 a.m. firefighters were dispatched to 3196 Van Bibber Lake Estates but were disregarded en route at 1:48 a.m.
