VFW to honor Staggers before his deployment
Greencastle VFW Post 1550 is honoring one of its members on the occasion of his third overseas deployment.
Chaplain Jim Staggers remains on active duty with the Indiana National Guard and will soon be departing for Kuwait.
The VFW is showing its support with a get together for Staggers from noon-5 p.m. Sunday at the post, 819 S. Jackson St.
"Jim is one of our members," Post Commander Roy Giesen said. "He always gives a speech for Memorial Day or anything else we need. It's an appreciation day to say thank you for all the things he's done for us."
Staggers' deployment will not just leave a void for the VFW, but for a community in which he also serves as minister of Sherwood Christian Church and chaplain of Asbury Towers.
Giesen also has Staggers' wife and children in mind as departure approaches.
"We feel sorry for his family," Giesen said. "This is the third time he's been deployed."
