Fair Contestant -- Sydney Shrum

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

Sydney Shrum is a 17-year-old from Cloverdale. She is the daughter of Roger and Kim and sister of Sammie, 10. She will graduate from Cloverdale High School in 2013.

High school activities include golf, basketball, track, student council, Spanish club, Mu Alpha Theta, Business Professionals of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Senior Class President.

Her social memberships or organizations include ambassador, National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society and student board member of the Dollars for Scholars committee.

Shrum hopes to play college golf after graduating from Cloverdale High School. After receiving her degree, she hopes to spend a little time in the city to get her life started then settle down in a more rural area.

She decided to enter the contest to be able to wear her prom dress again. She always thought it would be cool to do a pageant.

Shrum would describe herself as extremely involved. She does not handle downtime well.

She is very outgoing and spontaneous. She talks to everyone and has many opinions.

She loves sports and friends, but spends the majority of her time with her family.

Her hobbies include playing sports, drawing, writing and helping the local youth at sports clinics.

The best advice she would give a younger person is, as John Wooden said, "Be more concerned with your character than with your reputation. Your character is what you are, while you reputation is merely what others think you are."

The person Shrum most admires her grandpa Shrum. He is one tough guy and has to be one of the only 85 year olds that plays golf everyday except Sunday or unless there is snow on the ground. Shrum said she can count on him to be at all of her events and waiting to give me a hug when she is finished.
