Cheryl Dean is a 17-year-old from Cloverdale. She is the daughter of Jim and Jackie and the sister to Ryan, 22 and Kevin, 20. She will graduate from Cloverdale High School in 2013.

High school activities include National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, Rose Waters Book Club, SADD, Spanish Club, Science Club, Ambassadors, Women's Chorus, Student Council, 4-H, Cheerleading, class officer and FCA.

She is also part of teen court, Lion's Club, Hoosier Girls State Delegate and she was accepted to Young Women's Institute at the Kelly School of Business.

In the future she plans to attend Indiana or Purdue University and major in anthropology. After she obtains her bachelor's degree she plans on joining the Peace Corps for two years. She then plans to return and obtain a master's degree.

Dean decided to enter the contest to make new friends, for the good experience and to work on speaking in front of crowds.

She would describe herself as friendly, reserved, short, faithful, independent, hard working, ambitious, honest and polite.

Her hobbies include photography, singing, exercising, working at her job and attending church.

The best advice she would give someone is to never give up on your dreams.

The event that happened in her life that has had the greatest impact is when her great grandmother died when she was 12, which made her realize nothing lasts forever and to appreciate everything she has.

The person she admires most is Mr. Kiley because he inspires her to become a better person.

"He stays true to his faith and encourages anyone who needs it," she said. "He never judges his students and he is a great role model for anyone to have."
