Greencastle High School graduate LAURA ENGLISH was among the 199 Hope College student-athletes honored on the 2011-2012 Academic Honor Roll of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

The honor roll represents student-athletes who maintained at least a 3.5 grade point average during the academic year.

English, who runs track at Hope, is the daughter of Mary Dixon, Coatesville, and John English, Greencastle.

The United States Achievement Academy announced recently that CODY EVANS of Fillmore has been named an All-American Scholar.

The USAA has established the All-American Scholar Award Program to offer deserved recognition to superior students who excel in the academic disciplines. Scholars must earn a 3.3 or higher grade point average. Only scholars selected by a school instructor, counselor or other qualified sponsor are accepted.

The South Putnam High School student was nominated for the honor by SPHS counselor Mark Wildman. Evans will appear in the All-American Scholar Yearbook, which is published nationally.

Cody is the son of Wes and Lori Evans. He is the grandson of Jean Evans of Quincy, Art Evans of Greencastle and Ralph and Dedra Lopossa of Clayton.

During Rose-Hulman's commencement exercise, BENJAMIN PARKER of Fillmore was among the 417 students receiving degrees.

The son of Mark Parker of Fillmore and Tami Parker of Fillmore, Benjamin received his Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering.

Ninety-three percent of the 2012 class has already accepted a job offer, military commission or been accepted into graduate school. Parker is no exception, as he has accepted a job with Hospira Inc.
