ROSEDALE -- Shots fired at two police officers Sunday afternoon resulted in the arrest of a Parke County man.

At 4:11 p.m., a Rosedale deputy town marshal and an Indiana State Police trooper responded to a domestic situation with battery at 74 S. Main St., Rosedale.

As the officers arrived, two individuals fleeing the residence informed the officers the suspect was armed. Suddenly, the officers heard glass breaking from a north side bathroom window and noticed the suspect holding what appeared to be a rifle.

The officers took cover on the driver's side of the trooper's car as the suspect fired multiple rounds in the direction of the officers.

The rounds struck the car, breaking glass and traveling through the dash area, exiting on the side where the officers were taking cover. Both officers returned fire. No further shots were fired.

Officers from nearby agencies responded to the "shots fired" call and surrounded the residence.

The ISP Emergency Response Team arrived, gathered information and prepared to make entry on the residence. However, the suspect voluntarily exited the home and surrendered without incident to state police officers at 7:06 p.m.

The suspect, Zachary T. Buza, 19, of Rosedale, was taken to a nearby hospital for cuts and bruises. The injuries were sustained before he exited the residence.

Buza will be incarcerated in the Parke County Jail, initially charged with felony attempted murder, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and battery. Additional charges are expected.

A 17-year-old acquaintance of Buza was injured during the initial domestic situation, along with her father, Rodney Lowe, age 42, both of the residence where the incident occurred.

They were treated at a nearby hospital and expected to be released.

The trooper and Rosedale officer sustained minor arm injuries during the exchange of gunfire, believed to be from glass or shrapnel. They received treatment at the scene.

The names of the officers have not been released.
