LAFAYETTE -- The Greencastle girls' cross country team placed first at the McCutcheon Invite Saturday. The Tiger Cubs edged Kankakee Valley 39-44 for the victory.

Greencastle's Colleen Weatherford finished first with a time of 20:16, with Kayla Cash locked up the fourth spot in a time of 22:13. Greencastle also swept positions 12 through 15.

Alex Stoffregen was 12th with a time of 23:30, with Brittany Love finishing 13th in a time of 23:33. Sammi Haynes finished 14th in a time of 23:40 and Abigail Wilson followed closely with a time of 23:41.

"From our number one runner, Colleen Weatherford, to our number seven, Abigail Wilson, we raced hard and were aware of the competition that was coming from both Kankakee and Tri-County runners throughout the race," GHS head coach Garry Anderson said. "The plan from the very beginning was to let senior Kayla Cash pull the group of Hannah Brattain, Alex Stoffregen, Brittany Love, Sammi Haynes and Abigail Wilson and keep them in a pack for better scoring."

He said the team knew which girls it needed to pass in order to score well.

"I was really pleased with the way they raced -- not just ran," Anderson said. "The times are starting to go down on most of them and the course wasn't an easy one either.

"To place all seven girls in the top 15 was really exciting to see. This was a very challenging race on a challenging course and the girls performed well."
