County Jail

Two people were booked into the Putnam County Jail on Tuesday, Sept. 11.

* At 10:50 a.m. Steven Michael Sage, 31, Russellville, was arrested for contempt of court.

* At 11:13 a.m. Melissa Ann Miller, 34, Greencastle, was charged with probation violation.

City Police

A two-vehicle accident was investigated Tuesday morning at Jackson and Walnut streets by Greencastle City Police officers.

Robert Zaring, 56, Fillmore, was northbound on Jackson Street, driving a 1993 Toyota pickup, while Jane Hurley, 75, Greencastle, was westbound, driving a 2011 Toyota Camry.

Officer Jeff Modlin reported that Hurley did not see the approaching Zaring vehicle and pulled into the intersection where a collision occurred.

Total damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

Four recent citations were issued by Greencastle officers.

-- At 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, John S. Brown, 59, Bainbridge, was cited by Capt. Charles Inman on Bloomington Street, south of Martinsville Street, for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

-- At 3:48 p.m. Sunday, Trent Sowder, 45, Bedford, was ticketed by Capt. Mike Hanlon on U.S. 231 North for an incorrect registration plate display or false registration plate.

-- At 11:10 p.m. Saturday, Billy Buehler, 28, Greencastle, was cited by Sgt. Chris Jones on State Road 240 for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

-- At 1:50 p.m. Aug. 31, Glen Birt, 48, Greencastle, was ticketed by Officer Albert Epple for an improper left turn at Bloomington Street and Broadway.

Sheriff's Department

On Monday, Sept. 3 at 1:58 a.m. Amy L. Hawk, 31, North Judson, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2001 Chevrolet Lumina.

As she approached the curves just south of the Montgomery County line, Hawk lost control of the vehicle on the wet pavement.

The car spun out of control, leaving the west side of the road and entering a ditch before going back on the road, facing west, blocking both lanes of traffic.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.
