Artist Studio Tour fundraiser set for Mental Health agency

On Saturday, Sept. 29, Mental Health American of Putnam County will hold the 2012 Artist Studio Tour fundraiser event from 1-4 p.m.

Tickets, priced at $15, are available at the MHAPC office Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Studio B.

A wine and hors d'oeuvres reception will follow the tour at Putnam County Museum from 4-6 p.m.

Among the artists featured are Marla Helton and Stu Fabe located at 3875 W. CR 250 North, Greencastle. Helton and Fabe are internationally recognized artists specializing in fine art gourds. Their favorite techniques involve coil-weaving with Danish cord and waxed linen thread.

Their studio is located by heading north on Jackson Street past Snowy Pines to the Waggoner Christmas tree sign on the left. Turn left and follow 200 North for about 1.5 miles to the first left. Turn onto 250 N for about 1.5 miles to the first blue, two-story house on the right. The studio is connected to the barn.

Lance Myers, located at 2056 E. CR 125 North, Fillmore, established Pinhook Pottery Studio in 1990. Myers takes inspiration from the surrounding woods and fields to produce hand-thrown pieces and hand-built sculptures.

The studio is located on the banks of the Big Walnut Creek. Take Washington Street east and turn left on 10th Street/Round Barn Road. Continue to a four-way stop and turn right and proceed through Greenbriar Addition/Rangeline Road for 1.5 miles to a three-way stop. Go straight on CR 225 East. Go one mile to 100 North and turn left. It is the third house on the left at the bridge.

Studio B Gallery of Artists on Washington Street was formerly the GC Galleria that opened in 2009. Owner Sue Brucks, an artist, outgrew her original studio and moved to Washington Streety (adjacent to the Blue Door).

Studio B features sculptors, potters, gourd artists, photographers, jewelry artists and furniture artists.

Barbara Fields Timm is displaying her work at the Putnam County Museum. Timm attended Indiana University to study painting and received her MFA at the University of Pennsylvania. Painting for the last 15 years, she integrates modernist structure, often influenced by surrealism, with place, nature and processes.

Mary Kertzman, located at 3406 S. CR 200 W, Greencastle, is a jewelry maker. Her creations feature handcrafted polymer clay beads. She calls herself a bead artist despite making finished jewelry.

Kertzman's studio can be found by going south on Jackson Street from the courthouse. Jackson becomes Manhattan Road, and stay on Manhattan Road to Limedale.

Barbara Fuson is located at 484 Glenview Dr. in Greencastle. Fuson has lived in Putnam County for most of her life. She began drawing at an early age, took art classes while attending DePauw University, and has attended numerous workshops.

Fuson's choice of medium is oil paint to create the landscapes and barns of Indiana. She also experiments with acrylic paint, pastels and watercolor.
