Greencastle senior Landon Miller closed the book on his high school tennis career, falling to Terre Haute North's Tate Egan in straight set Tuesday 6-0, 6-0 at IHSAA Boys' Individual Sectional Tournament.

"He played all right," GHS head coach Sam Hirt said. "He had quite a few miss-hits, especially in the first set, which kind of made things go quick. We knew going into it, it was going to be tough. That's what happens in the state tournament.

"The kid wasn't anything astonishing, he was consistent. He had this nice backhand slice that Landon kept pushing long. I was trying to slow down his swing and shorten that."

Hirt said that although Miller had his share of miscues Tuesday, he continued to play hard like he had throughout his senior season.

"He didn't get too frustrated or upset that he was getting beaten, he just played. I'm happy with the way he played. I think he's upset about it because it was his last match," Hirt said.

"His record is around .500. He dropped a couple matches at the beginning of the season to kids that he should have beat. Besides that it's been good. The No. 1 that beat him, who are here (at DePauw), they're all very solid No. 1s.

"He played them well and people that he was around the same level as, for the most part, he beat, and people who were better than him, he gave them a good challenge and lost," Hirt said.
