Clifford E. Hanlon

Clifford E Hanlon, age 88, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012 at his Fairmount residence.

He was the son of the late Glenn Hanlon and the late Mabel (Beaman) Hanlon. He was born in Greencastle on Dec. 5, 1923.

He graduated from Greencastle High School in 1943 and served in the Army Air Corps.

He married Vera "Jean" Miller on June 8, 1944 in Indianapolis.

He retired on July 1, 1981 after 33 years as a maintenance welder at General Motors in Marion. He was a Sympathy Club member.

After retirement, Clifford and Jean spent 12 years in Avon Park, Fla., before returning to Grant County.

He attended Hillside Wesleyan Church, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 313.

He enjoyed traveling and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He was an avid Pacer and Colts fan.

He is survived by his wife, Vera "Jean" Hanlon, Fairmount; three sons, Steven (Kathy) Hanlon, Fairmount, Douglas (Janet) Hanlon, Somerset, Ind., and Michael (Jean) Hanlon, Lantana, Fla.; a brother, Stanley (Jean) Hanlon, Ellijay, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Selena Hanlon, Bainbridge; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Gilkison in 1975, a brother, Ronald Hanlon, and a great-granddaughter, Michayla Gilkison.

Arrangements are being handled by Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, Ind.

Graveside services will be conducted at Gardens of Memory, Marion, on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Gary Bingham officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Services of Grant County in care of the funeral home.
