City leaf pickup efforts, schedule explained

Saturday, October 13, 2012

To the Editor:

Dear City of Greencastle citizens:

The Department of Public Works will be starting the annual leaf pickup, beginning Oct. 29 and running through Nov. 30.

We advise all in the city limits to rake their leaves only (no limbs or other debris) to the side of the curb or between the sidewalk and the street.

For those who do not have a curb or sidewalk, please put your leaves out near the street, but not in it.

We will be following the trash routes, so please have them out the day before because we only go through each day's route once during the week unless we are ahead of schedule.

Weather, holidays or breakdowns may cause us to get behind. In such cases we will try to run the routes a day ahead of time. Holidays will be run the day before if possible, along with the regular route.

We strive to notify the public of the leaf pickup and updates for it through the newspaper, the radio and the Internet on the City of Greencastle website.

Thank you for your cooperation.
