The North Putnam volleyball team lost to Danville Wednesday in four sets Wednesday. The Cougars fell 25-22, 25-29, 21-25 and 25-21.

"The girls played well. We do not feel we played to our potential, but we played well," NPHS head coach Jill Schreiber said. "It's been a long last couple weeks. A couple long distance drives. We started out slow, but we fought back.

"They didn't just give up, they played with a lot of heart and the will to win."

Katie Welch, Bethany Wiatt and Kelsey Reed all scored nine points each, with Shay Lucas adding six and Madi Asbell and Samantha Lucas adding four points each.

Welch, Shay Lucas, Wiatt and Morgan Stanford had two serving aces each. Samantha Lucas had six kills for the Cougars, while Welch added five.

On the defensive side, Shay Lucas and Wiatt had eight combined digs.

"We have strong back row play," Schreiber said. "Bethany Wiatt and Shay Lucas do a great job working together to cover the back row.

"The girls trust them and rely on them to have their backs."
