Boy Scout 'perversion files' include two local cases
Among the 14,500 pages of documents released in the so-called Boy Scout "perversion files" were two local cases of alleged sexual abuse.
The file contains two alleged cases of abuse by a Scout leader in Cloverdale.
No names or further details of the incidents are given, only that the files regarding the Cloverdale cases were created in 1998.
Files date back as far as 1947 and contain 108 separate Indiana incidents. No other cases involve Putnam County.
Under orders of the Oregon Supreme Court, attorneys Paul Mones and Kelly Clark released the files on Thursday.
The files were released by order of the Oregon Supreme Court on Thursday.
Clark and Mones obtained files on 1,200 suspected pedophiles in a 2010 lawsuit that ended with a jury ruling against the Boy Scouts of America and ordering the organization to pay $20 million.
Many of the files contain more specific details on the accusations, including names, dates and incident reports. However, no further information is known on the Cloverdale cases.
In many instances -- more than a third, according to the Scouts' own count -- police weren't told about the reports of abuse. Associated Press accounts further report that even when local officials found out about accusations, no action was taken.
