Putnam FOP announces 'Santa Drop' project

Tuesday, November 13, 2012

For the past 15 years the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 92 has delivered toys to needy children in Putnam County, also known as the "FOP Santa Drop."

Last year was biggest year yet locally, providing toys to more than 34 children. Last year they not only got toys, they received such needed items as coats, winter boots and hats, gloves and school supplies.

The Putnam County Fraternal Order of Police would like the public's help again this year in assisting Putnam County children. As always 100 percent of all monetary donations received will go toward presents for the kids.

Applications are thoroughly screened and sorted with the most needy youngsters at the top of the list. The presents are then wrapped and delivered by Santa Claus.

Donations can be dropped off at the Greencastle Police Department or mailed to GPD at 600 N. Jackson St., Greencastle, IN 46135.

Anyone wanting to donate new toys, hats, coats, gloves or other items can also take them to City Hall or Ivy Tech, where donation boxes are available.

Anyone who has any questions may contact GPD Assistant Chief Brian Hopkins at 848-1539 or Darcy Hendershot at 848-1540.

If you or you know someone who is in need, applications can be picked up at the Greencastle Police Department during normal business hours.

The deadline for submitting applications is Dec. 10.
