DePauw School of Music presents an evening of opera scenes

The students of the DePauw University School of Music's "Performing Opera" course will present a program of opera scenes in Thompson Recital Hall tonight at 7:30 p.m.

The concert, under the direction of Dr. Kerry Jennings and accompanied by Gregory Martin, will include works by Mozart, Cimarosa, Bellini, Bizet, Puccini, Humperdinck, Britten and Ward.

Audience members will be entertained by operatic renderings of literary works like the Shakespearean stories of Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream, the Brothers Grimm's Hansel and Gretel, and Arthur Miller's The Crucible.

"And if that isn't enough, Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Bizet's Carmen, and the beautiful music of Puccini's La Rondine is certain to satisfy the die-hard opera fan," said Kerry Jennings, director of the program and professor of voice at the DePauw School of Music. "In true operatic style, there will be plenty of comedy and drama to go around. With girls playing boys, love at first sight, mistaken identity--and even a birdman--it is an evening not to miss."

Tickets to Thursday night's opera scenes in the Green Center for the Performing Arts can be purchased at www.depauw.edu/music/tickets.

General admission tickets are $3. Admission for children 12 and younger, all students, and seniors over 65 is free. The school's "pay-what-you-can" option, which allows patrons to pay only what they can afford, is also available online and at the box office to anyone who requests it.
