Four-vehicle wreck injures two drivers

Wednesday, December 5, 2012

A four-vehicle accident on U.S. 231 north of Greencastle sent two motorists to the hospital early Monday morning.

At approximately 6 a.m., Joseph R. Blaikie, 62, Greencastle, was stopped at the end of Edgelea Drive, waiting to pull onto U.S. 231.

Blaikie tried to pull into traffic when his 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee was hit in the rear driver's side by the northbound 2010 Honda Odyssey driven by Diana M. Ummel, 46, Greencastle.

The collision spun Blaikie's vehicle 180 degrees into the southbound lane, where it was struck on the driver's side by a 2004 Jeep Wrangler driven by Victoria A. Baker, 52, Rockville.

Ray A. Lycan, 66, Bloomingdale, was also southbound in a 2000 Ford ZX2. He could not stop due to the wet road, striking Baker's vehicle in the rear.

Following the collision, both Blaikie and Baker complained of pain over their entire bodies. They were taken into the care of Putnam County Operation Life.

Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy Ronnie Campbell estimated total damage in the accident at $10,001-$25,000.
