Community forum at DePauw Tuesday to explore Newtown shooting event, ramifications

Monday, December 17, 2012

A community forum concerning the tragic events at Newtown, Conn., is scheduled for Tuesday night on the DePauw University campus.

"Reflections of Newtown: A Greencastle Conversation" is set for 7-8:30 p.m. in the ballroom of the DePauw Union Building at Hanna and Locust streets

In Newtown, 20 children and six adults were fatally wounded Friday by a 20-year-old lone gunman during a shooting spree at an elementary school.

The Academic Affairs Department is the sponsoring organization for the forum.

The community forum offers a way for local residents to process what took place in Newtown, organizer Carol Steele said.

It is also seen as a forum for exploring the societal challenges that impact us here in rural Indiana. How do we individually and collectively respond?

The event is free and open to the public.
