Edith Odetta Awbrey

Edith Odetta Awbrey, 96, of Greencastle, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012.

She was born on Aug. 29, 1916 in Brazil to Clifford Lee and Dora Bunton Lee.

A 1935 graduate of Ben Davis High School, she had been a sales clerk for W.H. Block & Company in Indianapolis and retired as a file clerk from Wabash Life Insurance Company.

Mrs. Awbrey was a member of Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and served as a communion steward.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Mabel Milhous, Albert Lee, Clarence Lee and Naomi Stanley, great-granddaughter Brittany Booth; and her husband of 68 years, Charles R. Awbrey.

Surviving are her son, Gerald R. Awbrey and wife Jerry Jo of Sheridan; a daughter, Charlene Fugate and husband Tom of Indianapolis; six grandchildren, Lisa Cabral, Eric R. Awbrey, J. Bradford Burkman, Scott A. Booth, MaryEsther Gworek and Kristina R. Stinson; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 at Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church, 307 Simpson St., Greencastle, with Dr. P.T. Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Coatesville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Mrs. Awbrey was an avid gardener and enjoyed all needle works.
