Putnam native to be area investigative commander for ISP

1st Sgt. Robert Priest

Indiana State Police Supt. Paul Whitesell has announced the promotion of 1st Sgt. Robert Priest to the rank of lieutenant to serve as the Area Investigative Commander (AIC) for Southwest Indiana.

A native of Putnam County, Lt. Priest is a 1991 South Putnam High School graduate.

After high school, Priest attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute until he was hired by the Indiana State Police.

In December 1994, Priest graduated from the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy and was assigned to the Lafayette District.

After 1.5 years at Lafayette, Priest transferred to the Putnamville Post where he worked Putnam and Hendricks counties until he transferred to the Jasper Post in 1998.

Later Priest was promoted to detective and then to the District Investigative Squad Leader for the detectives at the Jasper Post. In June 2008 Priest was promoted to first sergeant as the District Investigative Commander at the Jasper Post.

Priest's new job responsibilities as the Area Investigative Commander will include, providing supervision, direction and support for the District Investigative Commanders and to plan, coordinate and manage Area investigations within Southwest Indiana.

Lt. Priest and his wife Amy reside in Spencer County with their two children.
