Joseph Rexell Boyd

Joseph Rexell Boyd, age 59, of Greencastle, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at his residence.

Born Oct. 4, 1953 in Greencastle, he was the son and fourth child of Rexell A. and Dorothy (Wells) Boyd, and they preceded him in death.

He was graduated in 1975 from Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill., with a B.A. in political science, following his graduation in 1971, from Greencastle High School. He had also attended Indiana University.

Always known as Joe, and as one who engaged those who knew him with kindness and understanding, he has a very wide circle of friends and acquaintances in Greencastle, where he had worked in restaurants and bars.

Golf and cooking were his avocations, and he was especially adept at the barbeque grill and loved to welcome friends to sample his cooking. He was a voracious reader of books and periodicals and a repository of facts and trivia on matters of popular culture.

Surviving are his sister, Dorothy Crawley (William S.) Richards of Greencastle, and brothers, William D. and John W. (Laurie) Boyd, both of Indianapolis. Also surviving is his companion, Mary Hildinger.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with interment to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. Tuesday until time of service at the funeral home.
