Sheriff's Department

* On Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 9:41 a.m. a motorist hit a guardrail on U.S. 40 while trying to avoid another vehicle.

Lawrence J. Schirmer, 57, Avon, was westbound on U.S. 40, approaching County Road 400 East in a 2004 Toyota Camry. Charles R. Campbell, 19, Greencastle, was pulling onto U.S. 40 from northbound 400 East in a 2002 Subaru Forester.

Campbell reportedly pulled out in front of Schirmer, who turned right to avoid the collision, hitting the guardrail on the north side of the road.

No contact was made between the vehicles, but Campbell pulled over and waited until Deputy Adam Hull arrived on the scene.

Campbell told Hull he did not see Schirmer's car before pulling onto the highway.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Police

Three citations were issued Sunday by Greencastle City Police Officer Eric Vaughan.

-- At 8 p.m., he ticketed Jerad Taylor, 29, Greencastle, on Bloomington Street for an expired license plate.

-- At 6:24 p.m., Officer Vaughan cited Kristin Rudolph, 17, Greencastle, on U.S. 231 South for an expired license plate.

-- At 1:30 a.m., Jackson Mote, 18, Indianapolis, was ticketed by Officer Vaughan for 56 mph in a 30-mph zone on Bloomington Street.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to several recent dispatches.

* On Monday, Jan. 14 at 7:22 a.m. GFD responded to the Groveland BP, 7280 E. U.S. 40, to clean up a fuel spill. They returned to station at 8:31 a.m.

At 2:20 p.m. personnel investigated a fire alarm at 504 Seminary St. They cleared the scene at 2:39 p.m.

At 4:13 p.m. firefighters were dispatched to assist with a structure fire at Van Bibber Lake, Section 6, but were disregarded en route at 4:36 p.m.

* On Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 9:12 a.m. GFD conducted a carbon monoxide investigation at 142 Woodhaven Dr., returning to station at 9:32 a.m.

* On Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 3:58 a.m. crews investigated a fire alarm at 626 E. Seminary St., clearing the scene at 4:07 a.m.

At 9:06 a.m. firefighters responded to a call of a car into a house at 808 Hillcrest Drive.

The accident reportedly caused relatively minor damage. Crews cleared the scene at 9:26 a.m.
