Russellville filtration system still off line

RUSSELLVILLE- Russellville is still waiting for its new filtration system to go on line. At its meeting Tuesday the town council discussed the filtration system, scrapping of the old system and the tearing down of a building.

The new filtration system for Russellville was to go on line three weeks ago and yet the town is still waiting for it to be up and running. Council president Don Reddish relayed that he wasn't sure what was going on why the system wasn't operational yet.

Reddish will be looking into the matter and hopes that the filtration system will be up and running soon.

With the new filtration system close to being operational, the council looked at the scrapping of the old system. The council is looking toward Russell Rice to scrap the old materials.

Concerns were voiced by the town council about insurance and who would be responsible for any damage done to the building during the scrapping process. It was decided to table the issue until the next council meeting.

Resolution 2013-1 was passed which allows for an extension on the completion of the water system project that is also being worked on. The deadline for final completion of the project is now April 30.

Brought up in new business was the demolition of an old building as people come in to town. The building is dilapidated and has partially collapsed. Russellville clerk-treasurer DeVon Davis informed the council that the status of this building issue has been the same for 18 months.

Reddish voiced his concerns on the issue and will be going to the county to seek help in the demolition of the building.

In other business:

* The awnings on two buildings near town hall are going to be replaced. Volunteers are being looked for to help with the project.

* Drainage issues in town are to be surveyed to find the problem areas and where they need to be fixed.

* Duke Energy has fixed the lights in town.
