Soil and Water Conservation districts set February workshops

The Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD) of Putnam, Monroe and Owen counties invite the public to attend one or more of the three workshops and meetings happening in February.

First, the Southern Indiana Grazing Conference is set for Feb. 6 at the Simon J. Graber Building at Odon with registration beginning at 7 a.m. and the day wrapping up around 4:30 p.m.

The cost is $40, which includes lunch and refreshments. Speakers come from across the U.S. and are widely considered some of the most knowledgeable individuals in grazing methods.

Secondly, Owen County, along with Putnam and Monroe county SWCDs, will host a Winter Cropping Systems Workshop on Feb. 21 at the Canyon Inn at McCormick's Creek State Park near Spencer.

PARP credits are available with a charge of $10. General registration is $5, which includes a light breakfast and from 8-8:30 a.m. in the Sycamore Room on the second floor of the inn. The workshop will conclude around 1 p.m.

To register, persons should contact their local SWCD by Feb. 12.

Finally, Putnam and Owen county SWCDs are hosting a Contractors' Workshop on Feb. 28 at the Cloverdale Holiday Inn Express Conference Room. The meeting will be conducted from 10 a.m. to noon and will include doughnuts and coffee.

Fred Glover (NRCS), Debbie Davis (FSA) and Matt Jarvis (NRCS) will update contractors and answer questions in respect to how the rules and regulations have changed for 2013. Interested persons may contact Sue or Eric by Feb. 15 for registration.
