Featured Athlete of the Week: Dane Gray, Swimmer North Putnam High School

Junior Dane Gray, 16, is a swimmer for North Putnam High School. His favorite music artist is Drake and he enjoys playing PlayStation III. Dane is an only child and he said in his downtime he likes to hang out with his girlfriend. His favorite athlete is Ryan Lochte. In school, the subject that interests him the most is psychology and he doesn't like math. His favorite teacher is a tie between Mr. (David) Moeller and Mr. (Chase) Hiland. Gray said he loves to work out and names it as one of his hobbies.

Banner Graphic: When did you start swimming?
Dane Gray: I started swimming in sixth grade, I began summer swim in eighth grade. I swam with Avon for three years and now I swim at Danville in the summer.

BG: Do you like the relays with your team or individual events better?
DG: I like doing relays; I'm always faster on a relay. I'm pumped up to be with my teammates in relays.

BG: What is your in-season training like?
DG: On a normal week we will go twice a day Monday, then once Tuesday, twice Wednesday, once Thursday, twice Friday, and once Saturday. I also lift five or six days a week as well. It's the same in the offseason.

BG: What life lessons have you learned from swimming?
DG: I have learned that you have to have a lot of dedication because you have to get up early. You have you put your mind to things and to never give up.

BG: What are your plans for after high school?
DG: I want to go to college. I also want to swim in college.
