BAINBRIDGE -- In a special school board session Thursday, the North Putnam School Board approved the contract for the Bainbridge Elementary roof, approval to seek a grant for Roachdale Elementary and the hiring of a new baseball coach for North Putnam High School.

The Bainbridge Elementary roof project will be headed to the bidding stage after the school board voted to approve the contracts drawn up by architecture firm Odle Mc-Guire Shook.

The bidding stage will allow the board to see which contractor can do the project at the lowest cost to the corporation.

Roachdale Elementary is looking to do some improvements to the school also. The school will be seeking a grant from Lowe's that will allow for the construction of an outdoor classroom and sheltered area.

The estimated cost for this outdoor area would be $15,000. The Lowe's grant would provide a third of the cost of this area.

This area would allow students a covered area to participate in various activities such as outdoor classes to having a place to read. The board agreed that the outdoor area would be a good addition to the school.

A new hire for the spring was also voted on at the board meeting. North Putnam High School will be getting a new baseball coach for the spring season, Phil Webster.

Webster used to be the varsity coach at Decatur Central High School and recently served as pitching coach at Franklin College.

Decatur won a state championship and 11 sectional titles under Webster's coaching.

The North Putnam School Board will have its next regular meeting on Feb. 21 at 7 pm.
