GMS bandsmen fare well at ISSMA solo/ensemble contest
Greencastle Middle School instrumental students competed Saturday, Jan. 26 in the ISSMA Solo and Ensemble competition at Terre Haute North High School.
The students spent many hours preparing a solo or ensemble piece and performed before a highly qualified judge.
There are five different groups that a student could enter in from Group V (easier music) to Group I (very difficult).
Each solo and ensemble is graded in several different categories including intonation, tone quality, note and rhythm accuracy, interpretation, dynamics and musicianship. Points are awarded and final ratings given from gold to participation.
The results are as follows:
Group V -- Gold Division: Amy Gong, Flute solo; Mika Mozawa, Flute solo; Ben Parsons, Alto Sax solo; Addison Hughes, Trumpet solo; Emma Wilson, Mika Mozawa, Ivy Wright -- Flute Trio; Gretchen Weliever, Abby Meyer, Vivian Savage, Ben Parsons -- Woodwind Quartet; Addison Hughes, Kaylin Hankins, Donovan Asbell -- Brass Trio.
Silver Division: Amy Gong, Sierra Mason, Layna Robinson, Corrine Buchanan -- Woodwind Quartet.
Group IV -- Gold Division: Adrian Peters, Tenor Sax solo; Ben Gellman, Trumpet solo; Nicholas Seaman, Trumpet solo; Yugi Mozawa, Baritone solo; Alex Weliever, Mallet solo; Josh Lamb, Snare Drum solo; Gabby Selvia, Madison Trout, Mia Stevens -- Clarinet Trio; Katie Kessler, Lydia Trout, Madi Woodall -- Alto Sax Trio; Nicholas Seaman, Ben Gellman, Yugi Mozawa, Rose White -- Brass Quartet;
Silver Division: Simon Foss, Jack Romer, Justin Berrish -- Sax Trio.
Group III -- Gold Division: Kelly Hansen, Baritone solo.
Silver Division: Gabby Selvia, Clarinet solo.
