Featured Athlete of the Week: Eric Davis, Wrestler North Putnam High School

Eric Davis, 18, is a very talented senior from North Putnam High School. He has varsity lettered in football, and wrestling all four years of his high school career, three so far in track. He loves steak but he hates Brussels sprouts. In school he says that his favorite class is PE and his least favorite is English. Eric's favorite teacher is Mr. (Tony) Fruend. His favorite singer is Kenny Chesney. He likes to watch basketball. His favorite sports team is the Ravens. Eric also likes to hunt and fish in his spare time. Some of his football accolades are IFCA junior all-state, AP All-state honorable mention, IFCA all-state honorable mention, All-Wabash Valley honorable mention junior year, and All-Wabash Valley first team this year. In wrestling he was a regional qualifier for junior and senior years. In track he was a state qualifier for shot put.

Banner Graphic: Who is your favorite athlete? Why?

Eric Davis: Ray Lewis. He is always in front of the game and he knows what is happening.

BG: Who introduced you to these sports (football, wrestling and track)? When?

ED: My dad introduced me to wrestling when I was in sixth grade. He introduced me to football when I was three or four. Then I started track in sixth grade.

BG: What was your reaction to these sports? Did you like them at first or did you kind of shy away from them?

ED: Yes. I have always liked sports. I have always played them.

BG: Which of the three sports do you like the best?

ED: Football is my favorite. I love it, and I think I'm the best at it.

BG: What is your training like?

ED: For wrestling it is pretty intense, it gets tough at times, but you have to keep doing it and get better. For football it is also intense you have to have a lot of dedication.

BG: How much of an impact has your team had on you?

ED: They are like my second family. Anytime you need to talk to somebody they are always there.

BG: What life lessons have you learned from sports?

ED: Always have faith, faith in god. Knowing that He is always there and I can always lean on Him and my team; it made me a lot better person.

BG: Do you have any plans after high school?

ED: I am going to college to play football and study education and plan on being a coach. I am probably going to Franklin College.
