Friday, March 8, 2013

The Big Read is back at the Putnam County Public Library (PCPL) and "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain" is the book.

On April 20 from 1-4 p.m., the library will host a book discussion followed by the movie, "Tom and Huck," a popular adaptation of the classic novel, starring Jonathan Taylor Thomas.

Starting March 8, any Putnam County resident can pick up a free copy of the novel at the library or on the bookmobile, courtesy of a partnership with Vigo County Public Library. The pick-up will last until all the books are gone.

The Big Read's website notes that "The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts, designed to revitalize the role of literature in American culture and to encourage citizens to read for pleasure and enlightenment. The NEA presents The Big Read in partnership with Arts Midwest."

For more information, interested persons cay contact Sam Hirt at 653-2755 ex. 118 or email him at shirt@putnam.lib.in.us.

The library is located at 103 E. Poplar St., Greencastle.
