Let's go Marco! Another day at the Indy 500
It's race day once again and here I sit. Normally I wish that I was out among the people and taking in the excitement, but with the thermometer expected to creep north of 90 degrees, I am more than happy to be kicking it in the media center.
Jared and I rolled up a little before 6:30 this morning and didn't hit a bit of traffic, so that was a cool way to start the day. Now sitting here gearing up for the day and all the greatness the Indy 500 has to offer, we talked about the race and threw down our predictions of who will walk away with the Borg-Warner Trophy.
Jared's selection is Helio Castroneves. He's sure Helio will join the ranks of four-time Indy 500 winners A.J. Foyt, Rick Mears and Al Unser. While Helio is always a top contender at the race, I'm going with a legendary family name to bring home the win.
I'm going with Marco Andretti to win today's race. The young Andretti is perhaps the most confident racer on the historic oval this weekend. He's had his share of ups and downs at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but I believe this weekend is going to put him over the top.
Jared jokingly said that Andretti's my pick every year and I pointed out if you stay the course that it's a prediction is bound to come true. But as he appropriately pointed out, with the last name Andretti, winning at the Indy 500 isn't a given.
However, I will stick with Marco and I'm confident that when I'm packing up my gear following the race, the headline to my story will be "Marco bring 500 title back to Andretti." All I hope is if Marco doesn't win, Helio doesn't sniff victory lane because then I'll have to listen to "the great prognosticator" Jared Jernagan all the way home and trust me -- no one wins in that scenario -- especially me.
Enjoy the race today and remember to stay hydrated -- and no beer doesn't count.
