24 Songs of Christmas, Dec. 5: 'Santa Baby' -- Madonna
I will never claim to be a Madonna fan. If ever an artist got too big and took herself way too seriously, it's been Madonna.
But in this season of giving, let me give this to Ms. Madonna Louise Ciccone: She was supremely entertaining and compelling in the 1980s, particularly in the "Material Girl" phase.
And how much more "material" can a song get than this tongue-in-cheek appeal for sables and yachts and jewelry?
Madonna channels Betty Boop to give us one of the high points of the now classic "A Very Special Christmas."
So sit back and enjoy a little piece of holiday humor that reminds us this Christmas thing is supposed to be fun.
I wish there was an official video for this one. Would be pretty amusing, I'd imagine.
