For the third straight year, the South Putnam High School girls' basketball team won the Putnam County Tournament. The Eagles defeated Cloverdale 48-37 in the championship game for the second time three years. "This was great game. The North Putnam High School girls' basketball team losing streak came to an end Saturday as it knocked off the Greencastle Tiger Cubs, 51-47. The Cougars finished third in the Putnam County Tournament and earned its first win of the season to move them to 1-4 on the season, while the Tiger Cubs fall to 0-2...

Lee Stewart and Art Dwigans recently competed in the Florida Ironman competition in Panama City Beach, Florida Nov. 5. The competition involves 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of cycling and 26.2 miles of running to finish the race. At 60-years-old, after 11 months of training, Stewart finished the competition in 14 hours, 34 minutes and 24 seconds...

In his first year coaching the North Putnam boys' and girls' varsity swimming teams, Mark Lehr is trying to bring a new attitude to the school. "Sometimes, in a small school like this, until you see success, you're not going to get people interested," he said...

DePauw junior Chad Bennett recently earned All-American honors at the Division III Men's Cross Country Championships. Bennett finished 24th in the race with a time of 26:15.1, while Neal Holtschulte of Williams College won the race with a time of 25:13.8...

The DePauw women's swimming team finished third among six teams at the Wabash Invitational Saturday, totaling 504 team points in the competition. Indianapolis finished first in the competition with 763 points, while Wheaton was second with 561.5. Katie Doogan finished second in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:13.31 and third in both the 400 individual medley and 200 backstroke. ...

It was a scrappy four quarters between the Cloverdale and Greencastle girls' varsity basketball squads in the second game of the Putnam County Tourney Friday. The Clovers came out victorious, defeating the Tiger Cubs, 40-35. "We've got a group of girls that just don't want to lose," Cloverdale Coach Bruce Cook said. "And that's something new for us."...

What looked like a promising season for the North Putnam High School wrestling squad has turnout to be a less than promising. In the beginning of the year, the Cougars were set to fill every weight class, but now are hoping by the conference match to fill at least eight spots...
